4. meridians
5. globe
6.imaginary
7.horizontally
8.vertically
9.equator

21. intersect
  Answer the following questions.
1.    How are the meridians measured?
Ans. They are measured in degrees, minutes and seconds.
2.   How many miles are there in one degree?
Ans. There are 69 miles in one degree.
3.   How many minutes are there in one degree?
Ans. There are 60 minutes in one degree.
4.   Why the Prime Meridian is also called as Greenwich
 Meridian?
Ans. The prime meridian passes through the Royal
Observatory, Greenwich in England, hence it is also
        Called as Greenwich Meridian .
5.   Define Grid.
Ans. The latitude and longitudes intersect each other to
form a network of lines on the globe called grid. Grid is the criss cross pattern that results from their intersection.
6.   What is the International date Line?
Ans. International Date Line is a zigzag line around 180 degree meridian where new date begins.

Q7. Write the similarities and differences between  latitudes and Longitudes.

Write the difference between Latitudes and Longitudes.
LATITUDES
LONGITUDES
1.  They run from East to west(horizontally), parallel to the equator.
1.  They run vertically from North to south; converging at the poles and widest at the equator.
2.  They are parallel to each other and circular in shape and are called Parallels of latitudes.
2.  They are not parallel and meet at the poles and semi-circular in shape and are also called meridians.
3.  Their length decreases from equator to poles.
3.  Their length remains the same from the north to the south pole.
4.  They range from 0 to 90° North and South
4.  They range from 0 to 180° East and West
5.  It is denoted by Greek letter phi (Φ)
5.  It is denoted by Greek letter lambda (λ)
6.  They divide the earth horizontally into two equal parts called hemispheres – Northern(0°- 90°N) and Southern(0°- 90°S)  hemispheres
6.  They divide the earth vertically into two equal parts called Eastern (0-180°E)and Western (0-180°W) hemispheres.
7.  All locations along a common latitude fall in the same hemisphere of the earth (northern or southern)
7.  Locations along a common longitude may be in different hemispheres.
8.  They denote distances from equator (north or south)
8.  They denote distances from Prime Meridian (east or west)
9.  Locations that share the same latitude may or may not  fall into the same time zone
9.  All locations on the same longitude fall in the same time zone
10.                   There are 180 Latitudes.
10.                   There are 360 Longitudes.
11.                   The important Latitudes (Notable lines) are: Equator (0°), Tropic of Cancer(23.5°N), Tropic of Capricorn(23.5°S), Arctic circle (66.5° N), Antarctic circle (66.5° S)
11.                   The important Longitudes(Notable lines) are: Greenwich Meridian or Prime Meridian (0°)and International Date Line(180°).
12.                   Latitudes help us to know the temperature of various places as per heat zones.
12.                   Longitudes help us to know the time zones of various places on earth
