Complete the  following sentences:-
1.Robin was excited because he would be graduating from college in a few    months.
2. Robin wanted most of all was  a beautiful red car he had spotted in the showroom.
3. Robin knew that his father would never refuse him to gift the red car because he was a rich man.
4. Robin’s father promised him to give the red car if he gets good grades in graduation exams.
5. Robin was confident that he would get good grades.
6. Robin was disappointed when he received a hymn book as a gift from his father.
Answer the following:-
Q1. What would Robin do every morning on his way to college?
A- Every morning Robin would stare at the gleaming , beautiful, red car in the showroom, on his way to the college.
Q2. Did Robin’s father agree to buy him the car?
A- Yes, Robin’s father agreed to buy the car for him provided he gets good grades in his examination.
Q3. Why did Robin get angry with his father? What did he do?
A- Robin kept his promise and excelled in his examination. On his graduation day his father called him into his study and presented him a box. He expected the car keys to be inside the box but it turned out to be a hymn book. This angered Robin and he immediately misunderstood his father. He simply thanked his father and left the study room without taking his gift.
Q4. What happened when Robin went back to his old house after many years?
A-When Robin went back home after many years old memories started flooding his mind and he wished that he never left home because of his stupid pride.
Q5. Why did Robin never make time to visit his father?
A- As Robin got a job in another city and  became very busy, so he  never made time to visit his father.
Q6. Do you think Robin regretted his behaviour with his father? Why do you think so?
A-Yes, according to me he regretted his behaviour  because he understood that it was his stupid pride which was responsible for his leaving home. He regretted as he cried bitterly once he realised the truth. Only if he had made the effort of accepting the gift and opened it ,he would have found the car keys which was inside the book.
Q7.What do you think this story is trying to tell you?
A- This story is trying to say that anger and pride is the worst enemy and we should think before we speak and act.

THE MOON

1-        What is the face of the moon compared to?
The face of the moon is compared to the clock in the hall.

2-        Which creatures love to be out in darkness?
 Creatures like the cat, mouse, dog, and bat love to be out in darkness.

3-        Who waits for the morning to be awake?
The flo­wers and children wait for the morning to be awake.

4-        When do you find the bats asleep?
The bats are asleep at noon .

5- What does the moon do at night?
 The moon shines on the fields, streets and quays and on all beings that are active and awake at night.

6-  Where are the birds found asleep?  
Birds sleep on forks of trees.

7-For how long do the flowers and the children sleep ?
The flowers and the children sleep till the sun rises.
ANSWER IN DETAIL
1)        What gender has the poet given to the moon? Site lines from the poem that tell you so.
The poet has given the feminine gender to the moon. Lines from the poem - ‘She shines on thieves on the garden wall.’ ‘cuddle to sleep to be out of her way.’

2)        Identify the figures of speech used in the poem .
Simile‘The moon has a face like the clock in the hall’ (Face of the moon compared to a face of the clock.)
 Personification – ‘The moon has a face like the clock in the hall; She shines on thieves on the garden wall.’ (The moon is personified as a woman with a face)
 Alliteration - ‘The squalling cat and the squeaking mouse (the repetition of the consonant sound-‘s’)
Onomatopoeia- The squalling cat and the squeaking mouse ,the howling dog by the door of the house(the natural sound of the animals is mentioned in this line).

3)How has the poet described the moon in the poem?
The poet has given the moon a feminine quality of having a face like a face of the clock that shines upon streets, fields and quays and brings to light all those that are active during the night and also those that are asleep.


4) The following words have two/ three meanings.  
a) light: The two travellers saw a faint light at a distance and began walking towards it.

: My bag was light so I could easily carry it up to the room.
b) fork: We came upon a fork on the road and did not know which way to go.

: She learnt to use the fork and knife to eat food.
c) lie: The yoga instructor asked everyone to lie on their stomach.

: We knew he told us the truth, for he did not lie.

Ans- Heritage refers to things that are inherited from the past.
         Socio-cultural, political and economic developments
         traditions of the past have remained dynamic among the
         people as they have been passed down from generation
         to generation.

 Q3.What is the difference between Material and Non- material
       Heritage? (H.W. pg 157)
Ans-Material Heritage refers to buildings, statues, monuments
        books and paintings which tells us about the culture of the
        time.
       Non- material Heritage consists of
       traditional customs , values , rituals ,tales, language, music
       and dance that have been passed from generation to
       generation through oral resources.

1.       Jantar Mantar-is an astronomical observatory built
by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur in the 18th century.
Jantar Mantar consists of 16 different instruments to
take astronomical readings.
2.       Hill forts of Rajasthan-the forts of Rajasthan are massive
in size with palaces of kings and queens, trading centres
markets and everything inside it like Nahargarh, Amber,
Jaipur , Jaisalmer and so on.
3.       Sun temple, Konark-famous for its chariot like shape that
has seven horses and twenty four wheels ,It was built by
King Narsimhadeva in 13th century and depicts the Sun God
Surya travelling across the heavens.
4.       Humayun’s Tomb-one of the first and finest monuments of
The Mughal rulers. It is believed to have been designed by his queen
Hamida Banu Begam. It is the first garden tomb of India..
5.       Meenakshi Temple-It is in Madurai, dedicated to Goddess
Meenakshi, and was built by King Kulashekarar.

Q-Describe various Types of Paintings.
       1.Warli painting:-inherits its name from Warli tribe of Maharashtra.
                                    -they depict the social life of people.
                                   -they are done on the walls of the house.
      2. Madhubani painting:-characterized by use of bright colours.
                                              -they are made on walls ,cloth and paper.
                                              -also known as Mithila art of Mithila region
                                               of Bihar.
     3.Kangra painting:-named after the place Kangra in Himachal Pradesh.
                                     -paintings are inspired by the beauty of the people
                                      of the Kangra valley.
    4.Kalighat painting:-depicts the urban society of Calcutta.
   5.Thanjavur painting:-paintings are made of semi-precious
                                           stones and gold foil.
                                         -these paintings mainly consists of Hindu
                                         Gods and Goddesses.
